Edgar Portillo, Family Nurse Practitioner, grew up in a working-class family with limited resources. His parents always taught him that a good education, hard work, and love for God and family, are traits that make a good, strong value system for a young man. While growing up, he always wanted to care for children and to help the underserved.

He joined the Army and worked in the medical field as a pharmacy technician while on active duty. He felt he found his calling in the field of nursing. He received a BSN from the University of Arizona and worked for six years as a pediatric nurse, working with sick children and pediatric cancer patients. He received his MSN from the University of Phoenix in Tucson, Arizona, and has worked as a nurse in the pediatric community in Tucson since 2009.

He enjoys volunteering at his children’s schools and with organizations that help the community, including helping the homeless. He spends his free time with his family, taking vacations and enjoying the local activities Tucson has to offer.
